Shifting Gears: Melissa Summerfield Discusses Entrepreneurial Leadership
For Summerfield, the primary appeal of her most recent position was that it was a nascent venture.
Summerfield’s professional experience thus far has primarily been in large organizations, but the chance to guide a new project was the transformation she felt she required.
“It’s an opportunity to lead a company, which is clearly a top objective for anyone who is ambitious. But most significantly, because it’s a startup.”
She informed iGB that the position would enable her to apply her experience from numerous other roles in a completely novel setting.
“I can bring all my experience to this firm and truly witness it expand from the beginning,” she stated.
“To be able to be CEO and initiate something from the ground up – as an ambitious individual, I believe this is something I truly needed to accomplish.”
From B2C to B2B
Summerfield possesses an impressive professional history. She began at BetVictor, where she was responsible for their customer relationship management, then transitioned to Party Gaming, and joined BWin following the merger of the two companies.
She was elevated to the position of Head of Gaming Operations, at a social gathering.
However, Summerfield stated she desired a shift.
“I was involved in operations for approximately 12 years. But then I altered my course. I felt the need to progress, acquire new abilities, and transition to the opposite side of the business, which is B2B. That’s when I established the office for Microgaming in Gibraltar.”
She was designated Vice President of Operations for Microgaming, and shortly afterward, she received the chance to become Chief Commercial Officer for Pragmatic Play.
“All of this, beginning as a CRM manager, then advancing to Chief Commercial Officer for B2C and B2B, prepared me for this position.”
Summerfield elaborated on Markor Technology’s business and offerings. For her, the primary factor is the ability to provide solutions for diverse product types and permits.
“We provide a comprehensive solution for other online gaming operators.”
“When you desire to establish a casino that encompasses sports betting and bingo, we can furnish you with the solution, or we can manage it.” Markor Technology possesses B2B and B2C licenses, and has aspirations to obtain additional licenses and offer products worldwide. Currently, the company is in the concluding stages of the MGA license application procedure, and it is anticipated to be licensed in the early part of 2023.
In addition to plans to obtain more permits, for operators who already possess PAM systems, we can furnish gaming content. We maintain a comprehensive content aggregation platform, providing over 5,000 games, with more added each month. Over 70 vendors have been incorporated into our platform. Summerfield believes the company is groundbreaking due to its diverse product selection, which is also why she desires to lead the company.
**Strategic Course**
If Summerfield had to select one key strategy to make Markor Technology stand out, it would be acquiring licenses.
“One of the primary pillars of our strategy is that our technology is robustly licensed and certified. If we perceive an opportunity to acquire a license and can collaborate with local operators, we will not hesitate to do so.” To date, the Markor gaming aggregation platform has been certified in the UK, Gibraltar, and Spain. Markor anticipates receiving approval in Portugal and Ontario shortly.
What’s next as they enter a significant number of markets? Summerfield points out that competing with the most established aggregators in terms of the number of games integrated is quite challenging.
Instead, she highlights that the company is currently concentrating on a successful strategy of “optimal service,” which is a key differentiator from rivals. With extensive industry connections, this is an area where her prior experience can be useful.
Its common knowledge that numerous aggregators or PAM solutions exist in this sector, some with more connections than we have. However, our focus is on delivering exceptional service, and we believe this can only be achieved through strong partnerships. This is a key aspect of our strategy and something we’ll continue to prioritize in 2023.
Markor’s impact is expanding, but how do companies like Markor connect with their target audience? Summerfield mentioned that the company recently unveiled a new corporate website and brand, and she’s actively involved in shaping this new brand identity.
“We’re planning to aggressively promote ourselves within the industry through trade shows and exhibitions,” Summerfield highlighted.
“We received overwhelmingly positive feedback at the recent SBC Barcelona and G2E Las Vegas conferences we attended. We’re now set to participate in Sigma in Malta, marking our first time exhibiting there, and this fills me with optimism about our future trajectory.”
Looking ahead, Markor Technology is a relatively new player in the industry, but Summerfield is driven and optimistic about the future.
Summerfield expressed her hope that Markor will join the ranks of these established companies within the next year, having collaborated with renowned operators and suppliers.
“We have a bold objective to be among the top three gaming aggregators within the next year, competing with the best and establishing ourselves as a leading PAM solution provider,” she stated.
Essentially, there’s no logical reason why businesses in this sector wouldn’t be interested in collaborating with us. We possess all the necessary components: the product, the service, and the required authorizations. We’re truly enthusiastic about this venture and the potential our company holds within this market.”
