Monteverdi will begin his new position in the early part of January. He has been an independent strategic advisor to Elys since March and was appointed President of the company in September.
Monteverdi will replace Michele Ciavarella, who will continue in his role as Executive Chairman of Elys.
Before joining Elys, Monteverdi served as President of the Americas for Sportradar, where he was responsible for the sports data and analytics provider’s strategic direction, helping it establish partnerships with major US sports leagues such as the National Football League and the National Basketball Association.
From 2015 to 2018, Monteverdi was Senior Vice President of Global Digital Products at International Game Technology (IGT), where he played a key role in the supplier’s acquisition by Gtech.
Before the acquisition of IGT, Monteverdi held several senior positions at Gtech, including Senior Vice President of Sales and Trade Marketing, President of Digital and Sports Betting, and Senior Vice President of iGaming and iLottery B2B Products.
Elys is strategically placed to take advantage of new trends as sports wagering transforms into a type of amusement that combines media and gaming, considering the convergence of the US regulatory landscape and technological advancements, Monteverdi remarked.
The firm provides a distinct multi-channel structure, granting it a unique competitive edge in the marketplace. I believe Elys has the potential to become a market leader and establish a strong presence in the online gambling and sports betting markets in Europe and the Americas.
Ciavarella also expressed approval of the appointment, stating that Monteverdi would contribute to driving Elys’ organic revenue growth.
“Matteo possesses over two decades of industry experience, including noteworthy accomplishments in the betting, gaming, and technology sectors. Since joining the organization, he has demonstrated leadership and a dedication to ongoing innovation within a brief timeframe,” Ciavarella stated.
The new appointment follows Elys (which earlier this month rebranded from Newgioco Group to Elys) recently announcing its third-quarter financial outcomes.
Income for the three months ending September 30 increased by 24.0% to $143.7 million (£107.4 million/€121.0 million), with the online business emerging as its primary channel during the quarter.
